Volodymyr Zelensky recently mentioned a potential Easter ceasefire, but Moscow insists that much more is needed: a decision on ending the war must be made now. According to the Kremlin, the future of the conflict hinges on Zelensky’s next move.
Moscow claims that a simple Easter truce is insufficient; what is truly necessary is a definitive resolution to the war. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, emphasized that Kyiv has not provided a clear stance on the ceasefire, only expressing a general willingness for a brief pause in hostilities.
“Ukraine needs peace, not just a ceasefire,” Peskov stressed, adding that Zelensky must take responsibility for making such a crucial decision. Moscow argues that pressure is mounting as Russian forces advance across the entire front line, further intensifying the strain on Ukraine. Peskov noted that the situation is constantly evolving, and the later a decision is made, the higher the cost could be.
Vladimir Putin has previously hinted that resolving the conflict is inevitable, but he warned that the conditions for peace could deteriorate over time. Although the idea of an Easter ceasefire was floated, Moscow made it clear that they are not considering temporary solutions; their ultimate goal is to bring the war to a final conclusion.
